AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED (ALS). 1 page, dated 24 March 1978, to "Dear Kirby" [McCauley], signed "John." On watermarked onionskin letter-sized paper with autograph return address (Lenox [Mass.]).

Cover letter for a story (not present) that Crowley wants McCauley to submit to THE NEW YORKER (" … my last assault on the barricades of THE NEW YORKER… If effort is any guarantee of worth, and it isn't, this is the best thing I've ever done."). He makes some remarks about the Italian edition of THE DEEP, which he had just received, and asks McCauley to send that Italian publisher a copy of BEASTS. Sparkles of wit enliven what would have been a boilerplate business letter from most other writers. Written in a beautiful calligraphic style. " … [Crowley] is now recognized as one of the shaping minds of the late-20th-century literature of the fantastic." - Clute and Grant, The Encyclopedia of Fantasy, p. 238. Faint creases where folded for mailing, fine. (#102318) (24278). Item #24278
