Presentation copy with inscription by Bierce to a fellow Hearst journalist on the title page: "Charles Michelson / with compliments of / The Author / St. Helena, Cal., / Aug. 30, 1892." Michelson was a famous adventurer and correspondent for William Randolph Hearst. Classic collection of short fiction including "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," Bierce's best known story.
