DR. CYCLOPS.
New York: Phoenix Press, Publishers, [1940]. Octavo, pp. [1-8] 9-255 [256: blank], original red cloth, front and spine stamped in black. First edition. Novelization of the 1940 film starring Albert Dekker as the ruthless and sadistic mad scientist in the Peruvian jungle who uses radioactivity to miniaturize living things, including a group of human beings who are reduced to one fifth of their natural size. "Not only is Dr. Cyclops a literate horror/sci-fi film with good animation and special effects; it is also filmed in Technicolor, something unheard of for such a low-budget film at that time." - Parish & Pitts, The Great Science Fiction Pictures, pp. 104-105. The novel, often attributed to, but not by, Henry Kuttner, was perhaps written by Alexander Samalman. Kuttner did write a shorter magazine version from the film script which was published in THRILLING WONDER STORIES, June 1940. Store ink stamp to front free end paper, damp stain to right edge of front free end paper and upper left corner of front paste down, a very good copy in a very good price clipped dust jacket with edge wear and shallow chipping, rubbing to folds, damp stains to the verso with some show through.
