Item #30966 THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY (THROUGH 1968). VOLUMES 1 - 3. Donald H. Tuck.

THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY (THROUGH 1968). VOLUMES 1 - 3.

Chicago: Advent: Publisher, Inc., 1974-1982. Large octavo, three volumes, cloth. First edition. Volumes one and two, "Who's Who and Works, A-Z," provide short biographical sketches of authors, editors, and other prominent figures in the science fiction and fantasy genres and briefly annotated checklists of their works. Book listings include first and subsequent editions in English and non-English language translations. Contents of single author collections and anthologies, as well as series descriptions are provided. Volume three, "Miscellaneous," provides checklists of magazines and paperbacks, pseudonym list, and other material. In his introduction Tuck stresses that "Who's Who and Works" compliments the 1948 Bleiler checklist and "can be considered as a sort of continuation of that book." The scope of Tuck's book is immense and, although the checklists are now several decades out of date, it is still a useful research tool. [Reference: Anatomy of Wonder (1987) 8-7. Burgess, Reference Guide to Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror (2002) 18]. Dings to lower front cover and tiny tear to cloth at lower front gutter of volume 3, a nearly fine set, without dust jackets as issued. Note: extra shipping costs required for this heavy set.
