This volume collects sixty-one stories including those published in The Horror of Abbot's Grange (1936) and The Night Wind Howls (1938), the authors first two collections of supernatural fiction which are rare; also included are seventeen stories comprising a third collection which was to be titled, Fear Walks the Night, which remained unpublished at the author's death in 1948. All the stories were published in the Ghost Story Press edition titled Fear Walks the Night [1993]. This edition adds "Do You Believe in Ghosts?" an account of "true" hauntings written by Cowles and never before reprinted, a foreword by Cowles son, Michael Cowles, and an introduction by Hugh Lamb.
