New York: Walter Neale, [1928]. Octavo, pp. [1-6] 7-244, original decorated blue cloth, front and spine panels stamped in black. First edition. Collection of six "supernatural tales, a bit awkward in the telling but with highly imaginative ideas. In 'The North Ferry Bridge' a vengeance-crazed peddler breeds a horde of cholera-bearing rats; 'The Wolf Book' is a Gypsy grimore for werewolves; 'The Dolls' Castle' lays supernatural snares to catch children." - Robert Knowlton. Mercer, a well regarded archeologist/anthropologist, was curator of American and prehistoric archeology at the University of Pennsylvania. [Reference: Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p. 155. Bleiler (1978), p. 137. Reginald 10016]. Slightly leaned, fading and spotting to cover edges and spine, mild wear to spine ends and corners, a very good copy in a very good dust jacket with light edge wear along edges with some shallow losses, spine and jacket edges toned, split along front flap fold. A scarce book, moreso in dust jacket. (33112). Item #33112
