Collects four Phantom Detective stories written by Laurence Donovan who ghost wrote some Doc Savage novels, whose influence appeared in these novels. The introduction by Murray is quite good talking about the influences of the various writers and how assistant editors Mort Weisinger and Jack Schiff worked together on a number of the magazines and how they influenced them. Weisinger recounts when he went on the DC comics he used some of the Phantom Detective (and other pulp hero) ideas in the Batman which he edited.
