Chicago: Popular Publications, Inc., 1937-1939. Octavo, seven issues, pictorial wrappers. Pulp magazine. All seven issues of Dime Detective with Raymond Chandler stories. All feature P. I. John Dalmas with the exception of "The King in Yellow" in the March 1938 issue. The John Dalmas stories were later revised and edited and became Philip Marlowe stories after the publication of THE BIG SLEEP (1939). Two of the Dime Detective stories "The Lady in the Lake and "Bay City Blues" were combined and expanded into the novel LADY IN THE LAKE (1943). These issues also include three Carroll John Daly "Race Williams" stories, and the January 1939 issue has a Erle Stanley Gardner story. November 1937: mild tanning to text paper, light edge wear with minor loss to yapp along right edge with some creasing and tiny tears, slight wear at spine ends, a very good copy. January 1938: slight tanning to text paper, tiny tear to lower left edge, two very tiny tears to upper front edge, a bright, fine copy. March 1938: slight tanning to text paper, slight edge wear with tiny tears to yapp and very tiny loss to lower right corner, a bright, fine copy. June 1938: mild tanning to text paper with a little foxing to early and late leaves, slight edge wear to yapp, two small scratches to front cover, a bright, fine copy. January 1939: mild tanning to text paper, damp stain page edges, mild edge wear with several closed tears to right edge, damp stain to verso of front cover with clear tape along verso of right edge, damp stain to left rear cover edge, cover retains good color, a very good copy. April 1939: mild tanning to text paper, small shallow loss along upper yapp, wear with some losses to lower yapp, shallow paper loss to lower spine, a bright, nearly fine to fine copy. August 1939: mild tanning to text paper with damp stain along right edge, light edge wear to yapp with tiny tears and some creasing, reading crease and crease to upper cover, damp stain and clear tap along verso of right cover edge, trimmed left and upper rear cover, a very good copy.
