Item #8317 THE RED SCARF. Gil Brewer.

THE RED SCARF.

New York: Mystery House, [1958]. Octavo, cloth. First edition. Gil Brewer was on the major writers in the Gold Medal line of paperback originals. This is one of two books published in hardcover by Brewer. Both are scarce. A hardboiled novel. "But his most accomplished work is one of two hardcovers, The Red Scarf-a tense story of a motel owner caught up in a web of greed, treachery, and violence made all the more complex by his own weakness." - St. James Guide to Crime & Mystery Writers (4th edition), p. 109. Anthony Boucher said in the New York Times that The Red Scarf is the "all around best Gil Brewer...a full packed story." Pronzini and Muller: 1001 Midnights, p. 90-91. A very good plus to near fine copy, some light black staining to edges of black boards and end papers from an old style dust jacket protector, some light abrasion to front free endaper in a very good dust jacket, light shelf wear to spine ends and corners with a little stress creasing, lower edge of dust jacket shows a little black staining. Still an attractive copy of a scarce book. (8317). Item #8317
