First English translation of the Fantomas novel first published in France as Un Roi Prisonnier de Fantomas (1911). Fantomas is a character from French pulp literature who appeared in 32 volumes written by Souvestre and Allain, followed by another eleven volumes by Allain after the death of Souvestre. Fantomas is an arch-criminal who plots elaborate and horrible crimes; he is pursued by a policeman named Juve. At the time of publication they were immensely popular in France.
